Apple and Ash Desk Lamp TS-0127

Part of the Nuthurst Collection, this smaller-scale design celebrates the natural beauty and individuality of the timber. Ideal for use as a desk or bedside lamp, it features a circular live edge Apple base with a slender curved Ash stem, mortised into the base with a slight backward tilt that gives the lamp its distinctive form.

The Apple comes from a veteran garden tree that was brought down in a storm. The salvageable timber was planked and carefully air dried, with the natural live edge retained to preserve the individual form and character of the wood. The Ash used for the stem was felled within a mile of my Sussex workshop, bringing together two locally sourced British hardwoods.

In keeping with the smaller proportions of the lamp, it is fitted with a high-quality solid brass E14 bulb holder. Small brass cable guides are individually handmade to hold the vintage-style braided cable neatly against the stem, adding a subtle handcrafted finishing detail. An inline on/off switch provides convenient operation.

The E14 fitting is suitable for a wide range of LED bulbs, allowing the appearance and character of the light to be changed to suit its setting. A carefully chosen filament-style LED bulb complements the proportions and natural materials of the lamp particularly well.

Every timber surface is carefully hand-sanded and finished with Odie’s Oil, enhancing the grain and natural beauty of the Apple and Ash while providing a durable finish.
