Ash Desk Lamp TS-0132

Part of the Ashurst Collection, this compact desk or bedside lamp is handcrafted entirely from locally sourced Ash. It features a circular Ash base with light natural spalting and a slender steam-bent Ash stem, mortised into the base with a slight backward tilt to create the simple, balanced form characteristic of this design.

The Ash was felled within a mile of my Sussex workshop, then stored and carefully air dried before being selected and crafted into the finished lamp. Using the same timber for both the base and stem gives the piece a natural continuity, while the light spalting in the base adds subtle variation and individual character.

In keeping with the smaller proportions of the lamp, it is fitted with a high-quality solid brass E14 bulb holder. Small brass cable guides are individually handmade to hold the vintage-style braided cable neatly against the stem, with an inline on/off switch providing convenient operation.

The E14 fitting is suitable for a wide range of LED bulbs, allowing the appearance and character of the light to be changed to suit its setting. A filament-style LED bulb works particularly well with the clean form and natural Ash.

Every timber surface is carefully hand-sanded and finished with Odie’s Oil, enhancing the grain and natural colour of the Ash while providing a durable finish.
