Steam Bent Ribbon Coffee Table
The Steam Bent Ribbon Coffee Table is a sculptural statement piece within the Maplehurst Collection, showcasing the elegance and versatility of steam bent timber. Combining clean contemporary lines with flowing organic curves, it is designed to be as much a work of art as a practical coffee table.
Each table is handcrafted from locally sourced Ash, with a solid square-edged frame supported by gracefully steam bent Ash legs. The legs are traditionally mortised into the frame and secured with solid oak pegs, creating a construction that is both strong and visually refined.
Beneath the glass top, flowing ribbons of steam bent Ash are carefully shaped and pegged into place, forming a striking sculptural feature that can be appreciated from every angle. These elegant curves create movement within the design, making each table a unique focal point for any room.
From Forest to Final Form
I have been involved in every stage of this table’s creation, from felling the standing tree to crafting the finished piece. The Ash used for these tables was felled in Brambletye Wood, less than a mile from my workshop, before being planked in the woodland, air dried locally and finally milled and handcrafted in my workshop. This close connection with the timber ensures every table has a genuine local story as well as its own individual character.
Finished with Odie’s Oil, the timber’s natural colour and grain are beautifully enhanced while providing a durable, hard-wearing finish.
