Wakehurst Ash Book Base Table Lamp TS-0136

Description

Wakehurst Book Base Table Lamp TS-0136

The Wakehurst Book Base Table Lamp is one of the designs created for the library within Wakehurst Mansion, combining a distinctive book-shaped timber base with a gently curved steam bent Ash stem.

The base is handcrafted from timber with an interesting provenance. Originally grown within the grounds of Wakehurst, after felling the timber remained on the estate where it was used for information and interpretation boards around the gardens and wider Wakehurst estate. Repurposed once again, the timber now forms the book-shaped base of this lamp, an appropriate detail for a design created for the library.

Only a limited quantity of this original Wakehurst timber is available. Once it has been used, lamps made from this particular timber cannot be repeated, giving each one a direct and lasting connection to Wakehurst.

Perfect as a feature table or bedside lamp, the combination of the substantial book-shaped base and gently curved Ash stem creates a distinctive design while allowing the grain, character and history of the timber to remain an important part of the piece.

The lamp is fitted with a high-quality solid brass E27 bulb holder, vintage-style black fabric-covered cable and an inline on/off switch, together with a white UK three-pin plug fitted with a 3 amp fuse. Other cable colours are available for lamps made to order.

Every timber surface is carefully hand-sanded and finished with Odie’s Oil, enhancing the natural character of the wood while providing a durable finish.
